Lake Eaton Trail and Salt Springs Swim

Lake Eaton Trail was cut short. 0.8 miles to the lake...0.5 miles around one side of lake...0.8 miles on another trail back to the truck. At 0.6 miles (according to our handheld GPS) there laying to one side of the trail was a raccoon. As I was getting ready for a photo shoot, J stomped his foot. An ear wiggled. UT OH! He stomped again and before I could get a pic the darn thing got up wobbly on its legs staggering off the trail. Jim immediately turned around saying, "Get the heck out of here", giving me a push back down the trail. Not knowing if rabid...we chose not to pass or continue our hike. Instead we drove to one of the nearby visitor centers to report the incident. The Salt Springs springs gushes millions of gallons per day of crystal clear water at a year round temperature of 72 degrees. One warm 80 degree day we ventured into the springs. Lots of grass and slippery rocks. Thank goodness I wore my beach shoes. After coaxing and holding hands, I ventured to the edge of one of the springs to peer down inside this dark hole watching fish swim about. Another day J swam around and over the springs.
Took me our entire trip to get a pic of the 18" Pileated Woodpecker.
