Crystal Carols at the Kimball Theatre with Dean Shostak performing holiday favorites on Ben Franklin's glass armonica and other new and antique glass instruments. The glass armonica was invented in 1765 and was the first US instrument. Shown here it has 37 bowls with gold rim trim...each bowl costing $500. A glass blower in Boston, Mass. created this piece after 1980 with a non lead glass as due to ??? of lead poisoning in years past to the musicians.
The glass violin was created in Tokyo, Japan.
The crystal baschet named after it's inventor in Paris, France, is played like a piano except instead of striking the glass rods...one rubs their wet fingers over the rods creating a most unique sound.
Also played were crystal glass hand bells with bell clapper of rubber...a one man bell ringing show.
What a wonderful hour of unique music with unique instruments.
